Kyle Schram comes from the back to win big in the LLM/OWM $600 to win 30 Lap Feature!
Kevin Cassaday wins another Trophy Dash.
Gary Champion adds to his Street Stock win total.
Larry Thacker Jr wins in biggest Mini Stock field this year.
Ken Campbell ends John Bledsoe’s Tire race win streak.
Tommy Styer ends the Tommy Hill win streak in a very hard fought V-8 Thunder Stock feature.

Beautiful Florida weather on Saturday could not hide the weeks weather on the Everglades Clay, despite enormous effort the track was the biggest competitor for every race car out there. A recipe of wet rough track combined with powerful race cars and even more powerful egos proved to be a night of passionate discussion, lots of name calling and some questionable sportsmanship. Would we racers have it any other way? The fans loved it, most racers didn’t.

After an extended intermission to work the track the Thunder Stock Trophy Dash was won by Kevin Cassaday who has been on a roll lately, Kevin in the #80 held off a strong run by Derik Rose who finished second. Next up was the Street Stock class for their 20 lap feature, the front row was the heat race winners Tim Arnold and David McCormack. Charles Christian in his good looking 04 car quickly made his way to second behind the #98N of Tim Arnold but no one had anything for the #23 of Gary Champion, Tommy Hill followed Gary to the checkered flag followed by Tim Arnold and Rick Osteen.

It was time for the big race of the night as the Open Wheel Modifieds and the Limited Late Models lined up together to do battle. Bob Regula and Kyle Schram brought the field to the green. Jason Intoppa and John Wilson were right behind in the second row. It was the Kyle Schram show as the 2S dominated the first 20 laps while John Wilson and Bob Regula battled for second place, the track proved to be too tough for the right rear tire on the 2S car and Bob and John in the 5 and 64 cars dodged the crippled Schram. After changing a tire the 2S car re-entered the race in the back of the field and then put on a clinic of how to pass race cars on a tough track and took the lead away from the #64 of John Wilson of Wilson Race Cars by lap 27, the fans got quite a show as Kyle held on for the win and a nice payday in the Schram Family Racing prepared and Unlimited Turbo’s sponsored Limited Late Model.

The V-8 Thunder Stocks lined up next and even those who anticipated a wild race were not prepared for what was about to take place on the rough Everglades Clay. Ken Campbell in the #72 brought them to the green flag as guest drivers Jesse Brown (the 2012 HCMP Track Champion) in the 75+ normally driven by Tom Alley and Tommy Styer in the #9 normally driven by J.R. Fitch had their eyes on breaking the Tommy Hill win streak. It was a huge compliment to Tommy Hill and the Randy’s Garage/ Everglades Farm Equipment Team that it would take this level of guest talent to challenge his streak, but Tommy wasn’t feeling very complimented. The three cars of Tommy, Tommy and Jesse ran almost every lap two wide in the space for about one car, let alone three talented drivers on a mission on a rough track. Tempers flared, sheet metal got mangled and bumpers were used for communication instead of protection. Tommy Hill felt boxed in as Jesse Brown held off Tommy Styer who stayed committed to the high line for most of the race. After some “communication” with Jesse Brown, Tommy Hill headed to the pits for a new rear tire. Tommy Styer stayed all over Jesse and only was able to lead one lap, lucky for Tommy Styer it was the important lap as the #9 car found its way to victory lane and the Tommy Hill win streak came to an end. Lots of post race discussion kept the emotion of the wild race going. Kevin Cassaday and Ken Campbell finished third and fourth with Tommy Hill and Jeff Smith fifth and sixth.

The Modified Mini Stocks took to the track for their feature race next and most of the fans were still standing from the previous race, Larry Thacker Jr. in the #00 Toyota found the smoother top lane to be the place to race and he was right, after a little fender bending with a charging Mark Thompson in his #28 Ford Pinto the little Toyota never looked back.

Ken Campbell and John Bledsoe were the only undamaged cars left wanting to run the popular Tire Race. A large tire was placed on the front staightaway and after a standing start the cars had to circle around the tire and continue on to complete the lap, for eight laps, pretty interesting stuff and a few “hold your breathe” moments. John has never left without a win in the tire race but tonight Ken saw the checkers first. Nice job Ken.

Next week, May 11th, the screaming Florida Mini Sprints are in town and always put on a great show and the V-8 Thunder Stocks race for $600 to win (as if those guys need incentive to race hard).

See you there, and bring a friend

Oh ya, I think the other Tommy (Hill) did ok too

It was another night of …great weather and great racing at Hendry County Motorsports Park’s Autism Awareness Night. Gene Lasker and his Autism Awareness lettered Sprint Car spoke to the fans at intermission and took pictures with his car and signed autographs. Right after intermission the V-8 Thunder Stocks took to the track for their Trophy Dash, the young talents of Nick Osborne and Derik Rose showed the veterans how clean racing and lots of passing can take place at the same time and be exciting for the fans. Derik was patient and took his opportunities and brought home his first Dash trophy.
Next up the Street Stocks ran on a track that was starting to come in nicely with the Sprints Cars on Deck, the race was dominated by some guy in a pretty car with a 1H on the side, he looked kind of familiar. Gary Champion, Rick Osteen and John Bledsoe followed him under the checkered flag.
Now it was Sprint Car time, you could feel the excitement in the air as the cars pushed out on the track waiting to be started. There is something special about watching these powerful beasts getting push started, come to life and idle around the track as the other cars get started and somehow, they all end up in race formation ready to go. The audience was ready, the starter was ready and the pole sitter Danny Martin Jr was too ready as the first start was waved off. The second start was clean and the thunder started, some cars ran the low line and some sprayed the dirt up at the top of the track. Somewhere in the middle of all the dirt flying was the #02 of Gene Lasker charging from the back of the pack. Shane Kreidler held off the challenges from Tony Agin, Mike Schroeder and Gene Lasker to take home the big Trophy and the winners check.
Thunder Stocks knew that they had an exciting show to follow, as they sat patiently waiting on the back straight while the Sprint Car victory lane celebration continued, none knew that some of these cars would not see the checkered flag and at least one probably wont see a race track again. The word was out there was a bounty out on that guy that keeps winning in this class, some new faces were hoping to end the current win streak. John Bledsoe was on the pole in his familiar red Camaro, Scotty Kay Jr. was on the outside in his Championship winning car from a few years ago (more recently driven by his father) and Tommy Styer was in the J.R. Fitch owned #9 car starting on the inside of row two. Some guy in a black 5H started outside row two. Tommy Styer wasted no time taking the lead before the first lap was over and checked out. The next lap looked like a ‘mayhem’ commercial for an insurance company as everybody except the two leaders got together in turn one, Scotty Kay Jr ended up turned in the middle of the track, rear axle dug in the track as Nick Osborne did a good job of squaring up the un-avoidable heavy impact. Six cars were involved in bringing out the red flag, all the drivers were OK after a wild ride by some. No driver was upset with any other drivers, all said it was good aggressive racing. Scotty Kay Jr got to do what every child hates doing, calling home and saying, “Dad, I wrecked your car, but it wasn’t my fault”. After the race restarted it was all Tommy Styer in the #9, as lap traffic started to play a part in the race the black 5H started to reel in Styer. After leading 19 laps the Styer driven #9 had a pegged temperature gauge and a black 5h behind him with a solid front bumper. Going into turn one Styer got to feel the impact of that bumper and moved up the track and discovered a car beside him coming out of turn two, that pesky car then took the lead and saw the checkered flag first. The two cars exchanged paint down the back straight after the race, we think they were congratulating each other, or maybe not.
The Limited Late Model and Open Wheel Modifed race was a great battle between Bob Regula and Mark Thompson for second as John Bledsoe checked out in his third feature of the night thus earning John a trophy, a check and official Iron Man status.

Now it is time to do what I have been avoiding.
Ok, here it is,
(Tommy Hill, if you are reading this stop now and go do something else)

Ok, Tommy Hill wins a record 8th Thunder Stock race in a row, Tommy Hill wins another Street Stock Feature, Tommy Hill, Tommy Hill, Tommy Hill…… Can he be Stopped?

The next chance to stop the Tommy Hill runaway train is next Saturday Night April 20th, it is the first annual V-8 Thunder Stock Spring Challenge, 30 Laps and $500 to win.

HCMP 4-13-13 151

Clewiston FL -  On Saturday Night April 13th at 7:00pm the Hendry County Motorsports Park will host the Eagle Jet Top Gun Winged Sprint Car Series. In recognition of Autism Awareness Month the Speedway will make a donation to the Autism Society of America.

Autism is a complex developmental disability that effects nearly one in every one-hundred and fifty births. It is four times more likely to appear in boys than in girls. This disability typically appears during the three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain impacting development in the area of social interaction and communication skills.

On this night the Eagle Jet Top Gun Winged Sprint Cars will reach over 100 mph on the straightaways and slide sideways through the turns. The series is the premier Sprint Car series in Florida and always put on an awesome show. The last Sprint Car series race at Hendry County was won by Gene Lasker from the Tampa area who himself has a young son with Autism. Gene will be at the Speedway again this weekend to defend his crown as Sprint Car King of the Everglades Clay.

Also racing this weekend will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks and V-8 Thunder Stocks. The Thunder Stocks and the Sprint Cars will have a Trophy Dash Event. In the Thunder Stocks be sure to watch local star Tommy Hill as he goes for a record seven feature wins in a row in his Randy’s garage prepared Monte Carlo. There will be other local stars on hand such as David McCormack, Kyle Schram, John Basquin, Gary Champion and many others.

The Speedway is located on U.S. 27 just one mile north of the Hwy 80 and U.S. 27 intersection and four miles south of Moore Haven. The gates open at 4:00pm and the racing begins at 7:00pm. Come out early and enjoy the food and beverages which are always on hand. For more information call 863-673-4325 or 863-983-3478 or you can visit www.HendryRacing.com or Hendry Racing on Facebook. Can Tommy Hill be Stopped in Thunder Stock?

HCMP_5H_win11

Can Tommy Hill be Stopped in Thunder Stock? This makes 6 in a row. Who will be the one to break his streak?
Tim Powers replaced a driveshaft during intermission and earned $500 for his efforts.
Phil Peterson won another trophy Dash, this time in the 88 car.
John Bledsoe wins again, this time outdueling Modifieds and Limiteds, the combined class made for an exciting race.
Scott Thompson takes the win in Modified Mini Stocks.

The evening started off with a wet track and the wind and race cars quickly turned it into a dry single grove but smooth track. After some water at intermission the V-8 Thunder Stock Trophy Dash took to the track, Nick Osborne started up front and lead every lap except the important one, Phil Peterson saw the checkered flag first and Osborne had a flat tire as a souvenir.
Next the Modified Mini Stocks took to the track and put on a great race despite only having a few cars. Mark Thompson and Larry Thacker Jr were practicing their bump drafting techniques on each other to the delight of the crowd but the flagman wasn’t impressed sending them both to the back and eventually awarding the win to Scott Thompson.
The Street Stock 30 lap $500 to win race was on deck and Gary Champion won his heat race and was on the pole with Tim Arnold in the #98 on the outside. Tim Powers started third and heat winner Scotty Kay Jr started beside him. Tim Powers wasted no time getting to the front by lap two while Scotty Kay Jr and Gary Champion put on quite a battle for second place, David McCormack in his good looking #26 car worked his way up to watch Tommy Hill in fourth but Davids’ night ended early as did Steve Jones after the #13 car broke a brake rotor. With two laps to go Scotty in the bright orange #21 (matching a lot of the fan T-shirts in the crowd) finally found his opportunity to pass the #23 of Gary Champion for second place. Tim Powers felt quite at home getting his picture taken with the checkered flag again.
The Limited Late Models and the Open Wheel Modifieds ran together and once again put on an exciting race. John Bledsoe went to the front and held off a charging #2S car with Kyle Schram behind the wheel, it was Kyle’s first night back this season and he proved he was still on his game. Don Sniff and Ron Regula did battle but were no match for the two Limited’s out front.
The final race of the night was the Thunder Stock class, or what should be called the Tommy Hill Show. Ken Campbell won his heat race and earned his way to starting on the pole beside Tommy Hill who also won his heat race. Bruce Basham found his way back to the track in quite some time and started the feature inside row two. John Basqiun in the 5R started in the rear and quickly made it up to second place with Bruce’s #39 following him. Nick Osborne finished fourth with Ken Campbell rounding out the top five.
Everyone made it through tech this week, some fenders were mangled, only a few tires ruined and the track was pretty good. Big night coming up this Saturday April 13th when the Top Gun Winged Sprint Cars come back for another round at Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston Florida.

Nick Osborne gets his first win in Thunder Stock Trophy Dash!
Rick Osteen brings home the win in Street Stock.
Mark Thompson wins Modified Mini Stocks.
Bob Regula has to find room at home for another big trophy.
Tommy Hill wins fifth Thunder stock race in a row, rumor has it that he is trading in his firesuit for a Sup…erman costume.

Saturday Night under the lights, weather was great but the Friday night rains certainly took it’s toll on the track surface, definitely not the best track of the year. Bringing out the grader at intermission and moving the infield tires up a bit helped but it still made for a challenging track. That’s what we love about dirt track racing, always changing, always challenging and always exciting.

Nick Osborne saw the checkered flag first in the ThunderStock Trophy dash, a fitting reward for the last minute arrival at the track after thrashing on the car making last minute repairs. I was once told, ” if your not racing to go racing, your probably not racing “. Nick’s work paid off so far, but the night was young.

Mark Thompson in the #28 Pinto extended his point lead in Modified Mini Stocks after Larry Thacker Jr. lost second gear in the #00 Toyota.

The Street Stock division was up next as the track surface started to shows signs of wear and the infield tires kept getting pushed down by drivers looking for the short way around the corners. Del Powell dominated the first half in his #14 until lapped traffic changed Del’s night. Tommy Hill lead the tenth lap in the 1H but Rick Osteen decided it was his turn to win a race and showed the field his rear bumper all the way to the checkered flag. Gary Champion and Ron Regula got around Tommy on the last lap to take second and third.

Next was the first of the nights two 30 Lap, $500 to win Features and by far the wildest race of the night. The Limited Late Models and the Open wheel Modifieds agreed to run together for the bigger payouts. That decision proved pretty exciting for the fans. John Wilson on the #64 started third and lead the first lap followed by the #61 of Thomas Scott. The #5 of Ron Regula came from seventh to second in three laps and the #11 of Waylon Haynes wanted back up front after losing several positions on lap one. John Wilson was out front until lap 10 when Waylon figured out a fast line on the tricky surface and got around Wilson. Five laps later Wilson took the lead back until traffic and a flat tire changed John’s night. Behind the leaders was an incredible amount of passing for positions every corner but lurking around was Thomas Scott, Bob Regula and Don Sniff. Waylon Haynes became victim to the track suface on lap 20 and Mark Thompson in his #28 Open Wheel Modified pounced on the opportunity to fight Wayne Hildebrand for the lead, Mark worked his steering wheel hard to lead the next eight laps with what turned out to be a bent A-arm, with two laps to go Regula found a way around the #28 and brought another win, another big trophy and a nice payday.

The last race of the night was the V-8 Thunder Stock 30 lapper. Tommy Hill started on the pole and never looked back. The only cars he saw all night were the ones he was lapping. Cody Allen and Mike Delveccia put on quite a show for second place while J.R. Fitch was trying to make the high line work which proved to be very difficult but fun to watch. John Basquin in the 5R stayed out of trouble and battled with J.R. for the last ten laps to finish third, J.R. finished second. Robbie and Phil Peterson rounded out the top five.

It is a well deserved week off at Hendry County Motorsports Park next weekend. The Street Stocks will be battling for the big trophy (and payout) on April 6th.

Ken Campbell wins Thunder Stock Trophy Dash!
Gary Champion beats Tommy Hill in Street Stock.
Bob Regula wins one for the Modified camp.
Tommy Hill is unstoppable in Thunder Stock with four feature wins in a row.
Shawn Reiss holds off Larry Thacker Jr. to win in Modified Mini Stocks.

After Ken Campbell earned first place honors in the V-8 Thunder Stock trophy dash the Street Stocks lined up for their feature, Tommy Hill started on the pole but Ron Regula came from third place to lead lap one, Ron over drove it into turn one and Rick Osteen came from fifth place to lead lap number two. Rick lead the next ten laps while Gary Champion worked his way from the back a few times and drove by Tommy Hill for second place on lap 9. Gary waited for Rick to make a mistake and that opportunity came with three laps to go, Gary then held off a charging Tommy Hill, Ron Regula and Tim Arnold for the feature win. Gary treated the crowd to several infield victory donuts to show his excitement for the win.In the combined Open Wheel Modified/Limited Late Model Feature race Bob Regula passed Wayne Schram for the lead early in the feature and held off John Bledsoe, Mark Thompson and Wayne for the win.At this point the crowd had no idea the wild and crazy race the popular V-8 Thunder Stocks were about to put on as Phil Peterson in his #88 Batmobile car lead the field to the green for the 20 lap feature. Following a restart for Nick Osborne’s wild ride after losing an axle while fighting for the lead coming out of turn four, Mike Delveccia came from fifth to first to lead for several laps until Tommy Hill showed Mike the fast way around the dirt oval. The excitement was about to start in the mid-pack battles as the #9 of J.R. Fitch and the #88 of Phil Peterson got to see a black flag for not playing well with others. Ken Campbell met up later in the race in turn four with Mike Delveccia and both got out of their cars on the track, probably to discuss preferred racing lines, they both appeared to want the same one. Ken got to see that busy black flag after his on track discussion. Mike got to ride in his car backwards as the tractor pulled the three wheeled car to the pits. Tommy Hill won the race, Tim Stoffel and Tom Alley earned podium spots as the second and third place cars did not fair too well in the tech shed.Shawn Reiss held off a fighting Larry Thacker Jr. to claim the top prize in Modified Mini Stocks. Larry worked the high line, the low line and even tried the bumper a bit but Shawn drove his line and saw the checkered flag first. Brothers Mark and Scott Thompson battled close behind for family bragging rights. All this excitement and we still had the Mini Sprint Feature to go. The Florida Mini Sprint Association is a class group and they put on a great show. Eddie Moss did the victory donuts in the infield just like Gary Champion did. Rob Sweeten got some great pictures and video of the evening and they can be seen on his website linked to www.Hendryracing.com .Can’t wait until next week with twin $500 to win 30 lap races for the Thunder Stocks and the Limited Late Models.

Clewiston FL: The Top Gun Spints invaded Hendry County Motorsports for a 25 lap feature.   Gene Lasker 02 started on the pole and led every lap but things were much more interesting behind him.  The start of the race saw 3 cars make contact with the 3a AJ Maddox getting turned around.  A few restarts later the race got going with 1 Tim George who started second getting passed by 82 Danny Martin, 52 Shane Kreider, and Maddox.  With Lasker out front the next 3 worked to settle 2ndthrough 4th.  After several swaps Following Lasker was Kreider, Martin, Maddox and George to round out the top 5.  Mike Schroeder overcame a flip in his heat to finish 6th with the help of a borrowed wing from Lasker.  Shane Kreider won the Hoseheads.com Cash Dash.

Street Stocks feature:.  After starting on the pole 98 Tom Arnold lead the first three laps.  Tommy Hill in the 1H passed for the lead on lap 4.   After a caution of Arnold smoking, Ron Regula dove to the bottom and drove passed Hill for the lead.   Tommy Hill came back and when Regula drifted up off the bottom drove right back to the lead and the win.  Following Hill and Regula, was Rick O’Steen, John Basquin, and Brian Morgan rounded out the top 5.

Thunder Stocks feature:  5Tommy Hill 5H came from the 4th starting spot and took the lead and the win for his second win of the night.  The 11x of Steve Colon took a hard hit after a spin by Derrik Rose 5R Colon just got stopped before sandwiched by 08 Tim Stoffel.  Behind Hill it was JR Fitch, Robbie Regula, Kevin Cassady and Nick Osborne to round out the top 5.

Mini Stocks feature: Larry Thacker Jr added new graphics but had a familiar result winning the Mini Stock Feature.

In the Modified feature John Intoppa was tracked down by Bob Regula 5 slight contact saw Regula spin rather than take out Intoppa.  After going to the rear Regula came storming back to pass Intoppa and take the win.   John Bledsoe finished second followed by Intoppa, Mark Thompson and Lonnie Byassee.

Brian Morgan gets his first HCMP Street Stock win of 2013!
Tim Stoffel wins Thunder Stock Trophy Dash.

Brian Morgan started on the pole for the feature after winning his heat race by passing Rick Osteen right before Rick and Tommy Hill got… together T-Bone style. Brian saw the green flag and the checkered flag first leading the whole race.
John Bledsoe debuted his new look and impressed everyone on and off the track with his first Feature win of the year in the combined race with the Open Wheel Modifieds. Don Sniff, John Wilson and Thomas Scott saw the track for the first time this year with some great looking cars.
The V-8 Thunders Stocks provided some exciting battles in the Trophy Dash and the Feature race. Some metal and tempers got bent, some tires deflated with the help of fellow competitiors. Marco Reyes lead the beginning laps of the Feature but a determined Tommy Hill started sixth and took the lead by lap five. J.R Fitch gave chase but finished second.
Larry Thacker Jr. and Betty Alley also got their first wins in newly frsehened up cars in Modified Mini Stocks and Powder Puff.

J.R. Fitch wins the First V-8 Thunder Stock Feature Race!
Tom Alley wins the First V-8 Thunder Stock Trophy Dash!
Eleven cars took the green flag for the Thunder Stock feature under the lights that stayed on all night after an early evening brief reset of the back staightaway lights. The new class that combined the popular Pure Stock and V-8 Bomber class looks like it will have great competition and participation this year. There are a lot of good cars being finished and there was a lot of good cars that were ready for Saturday Night.
Although many racers are still preparing to battle in a longer season, and Speedweeks activiities complicated scheduling, those that were able to make it had the opportunity to show their stuff on a cool but clear Florida night. The track surface was great thanks to the efforts of Larry Thacker and his trusty brigade of diesel equipment. The evening had some bent fenders, flat tires, flaring tempers (a few people even used swear words) and lots of fun, good racing and comradery. Next Saturday Night, February 23rd is the Swamp Cabbage Bash with all Local Points Classes and the Season Opening Event for the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series.
