2021 THUNDER TRUCK RULES

 Full size pickups only. No, El Camino’s, Rancheros, S-10, or small rangers.

 Weight: 3200 lbs. min weigh

 Body:

  1. Truck must be stock. No modifications or alterations of any kind allowed. No skirts permitted – skirts must be 6” (same as frame height). Doors and tailgates must be secured and in place.
  2. Interior parts can be removed with hand tools only. All openings in firewall must be sealed. Driver must be protected at all times. 
  3. Driver’s door bars must be extended to outer panel to allow for safety space between driver and bars. Passenger door may be gutted for bar clearance only.
  4. All exterior moldings, lights, and trim must be removed. 
  5. Hood may be gutted with no holes. No air boxes allowed. 
  6. Front inner panels may be removed. Outer fenders may be trimmed for tire, must remain stock appearing – may not “look” altered
  7. Must have minimum of 2 bars in front of the driver. Lexan is also acceptable, but no glass. Wire guard 
  8. All doors must be bolted or welded shut. Driver’s door must be in place at all times. 
  9. Bumpers must be stock from factory and can be reinforced from behind. Tow loops required at both front and rear. 
  10. Side rub rails accepted one per side. Maximum 1-inch square tubing mounted flush to body, painted same as car. No sharp ends. May be welded or bolted with 3/8-inch carriage bolts. 
  11. All vehicles with enclosed front ends and bumpers are required to have a hook or chain loop device, to allow hooking by a tractor or wrecker, capable of supporting the weight of the vehicle when lifted. This procedure must be capable of being carried out without raising the hood. 

 Brakes

  1. Stock factory brakes.
  2. Clutch pedal in stock location only. Hydraulic clutch allowed in factory pedal location.
  3. All 4 brakes must work

 Roll Cage 

  1. Seat must be mounted to roll cage in stock position. No offsets
  2. Full 4 post roll cage with at least three driver’s side door bars required. Two door bars are required on passenger side. Bracing can be placed form roll cage through back window to truck frame. 
  3. Front radiator loops are allowed. 1 3/4″ O.D loop roll cage okay. 

Chassis and Suspension

  1. “Ford” can bend right or left front axle for 5 deg camber.
  2. “Chevy” can replace upper A-frame mounting bolts with longer bolts for max 5 deg camber. Must be factory length. A-Frame must remain in stock location and remain stock OEM for make/ model of truck 3. Factory springs only. May not be cut, must be equal height. Must be equal from left to right, while vehicle sitting flush on ground with no driver or crew inside vehicle
  3. Truck must have 6” ride height
  4. Rear leaf springs may not be arched and/or de-arched but must have same number of leaves on both sides. Adjustable shackles acceptable. May cut out bed and leaf springs may go through bed to lower trucks. 
  5. No racing shocks. Factory shocks only. Shocks must be mounted in stock location. “Top” end of shock may not be relocated.
  6. No racing springs allowed – None: front or rear
  7. Right front upper control arm can be modified to achieve up to 5 deg maximum castor camber.  Extended bolts allowed. Ford only, can bend left or right to achieve same 5 deg max

 Drive Train

  1. Rear end may be locked or opened.
  2. Stock manufactured manual or automatic transmission must be in working condition. Automatics must use stock converter. 
  3. Must have all working gears from factory
  4. Engine must be in stock location for make and model. Mounts may be solid or made of light weight material.
  5. Stock manufactured clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel assembly required – must be stock diameter: 14lbs flywheel, 10″ clutch & pressure plate. No aluminum components allowed. 

Tires and Wheels

  1. Spoke or racing wheels allowed. 
  2. Wheels may be no wider than 8 inches. All 4 wheels must have same offset
  3. Hoosier H-500 or DOT tires are acceptable  
  4. Overall width of truck from outside of tires: Tire to tire no to exceed 80” total – both front and rear max width 80”

 Fuel 

  1. Only track approved fuel allowed. No additives of any kind will be allowed. No E85 or alcohol allowed. E87 (or higher), Sunoco 101 or 110 racing fuel only
  2. Fuel cell mandatory and must be located in bed of truck with maximum 22 gallons. No electric fuel pumps allowed.
  3. Fuel cells may be mounted through floor bed. The depth of half of the overall height and must be minimum of 10 inches off the ground with protection bars.
  4. No boat tanks or non-approved fuel cells (4-17 SSE tech has final approval on cells)

 Engine

  1. Stock GM, Ford, and Mopar V-8’s only.
  2. Camshaft .450” lift hydraulic max.
  3. Intake manifold unmodified stock cast iron or aluminum (p#7101) only. Block can be bored .040 over +.010. 500 cfm 4412 Holly, 1 inch adapter plate. Carburetor claimer applies. $25.00 and new 4412 unopened box. Must have double return springs.
  4. Distributor- stock single point or electronic only with OEM coil.
  5. Stock oil pans only – Must have inspection hole in oil pan for crank/ rod inspection
  6. Radiators- any type that will fit under hood with 1 gallon overflow pan. 
  7. Static compression radio- what is stated in Chilton book for the motor you have.
  8. After market aluminum and/or steel pulley allowed. 
  9. Poly locks okay. 
  10. 1.5 roller rockers 
  11. Any steel head for GM. No bowtie or aluminum headers & must add 50lbs to total weight

 Exhaust 

  1. Cast iron exhaust manifolds or headers only. 
  2. Exhaust pipes up to 3″ outside diameter are permitted

 Miscellaneous 

  1. Ballast may be added. Must be securely tied down and covered. 
  2. Window net and fire extinguisher are mandatory on all Southern Stock V8 Trucks 
  3. Safety fuel and battery shut off valve within driver’s reach is mandatory.
  4. No Mirrors are allowed 
  5. Receivers are required
  6. Radios are NOT allowed This is a protest division. Refer to General Rules for Protest fees. PROTEST MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING AND FEES PAID TO TECH WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF RACE COMPLETION (NO EXCEPTION). Must finish on the lead lap. Tech discretion

 The track reserves the right to add weight at its discretion for the fairness of competition.

 **If these rules do not say you can do it then do not do it! All interpretations by the Tech man are final. You are responsible to know the tech man’s position on all rules. Refer to the General & safety rules for more information and requirements**
