After Ken Campbell earned first place honors in the V-8 Thunder Stock trophy dash the Street Stocks lined up for their feature, Tommy Hill started on the pole but Ron Regula came from third place to lead lap one, Ron over drove it into turn one and Rick Osteen came from fifth place to lead lap number two. Rick lead the next ten laps while Gary Champion worked his way from the back a few times and drove by Tommy Hill for second place on lap 9. Gary waited for Rick to make a mistake and that opportunity came with three laps to go, Gary then held off a charging Tommy Hill, Ron Regula and Tim Arnold for the feature win. Gary treated the crowd to several infield victory donuts to show his excitement for the win.In the combined Open Wheel Modified/Limited Late Model Feature race Bob Regula passed Wayne Schram for the lead early in the feature and held off John Bledsoe, Mark Thompson and Wayne for the win.At this point the crowd had no idea the wild and crazy race the popular V-8 Thunder Stocks were about to put on as Phil Peterson in his #88 Batmobile car lead the field to the green for the 20 lap feature. Following a restart for Nick Osborne’s wild ride after losing an axle while fighting for the lead coming out of turn four, Mike Delveccia came from fifth to first to lead for several laps until Tommy Hill showed Mike the fast way around the dirt oval. The excitement was about to start in the mid-pack battles as the #9 of J.R. Fitch and the #88 of Phil Peterson got to see a black flag for not playing well with others. Ken Campbell met up later in the race in turn four with Mike Delveccia and both got out of their cars on the track, probably to discuss preferred racing lines, they both appeared to want the same one. Ken got to see that busy black flag after his on track discussion. Mike got to ride in his car backwards as the tractor pulled the three wheeled car to the pits. Tommy Hill won the race, Tim Stoffel and Tom Alley earned podium spots as the second and third place cars did not fair too well in the tech shed.Shawn Reiss held off a fighting Larry Thacker Jr. to claim the top prize in Modified Mini Stocks. Larry worked the high line, the low line and even tried the bumper a bit but Shawn drove his line and saw the checkered flag first. Brothers Mark and Scott Thompson battled close behind for family bragging rights. All this excitement and we still had the Mini Sprint Feature to go. The Florida Mini Sprint Association is a class group and they put on a great show. Eddie Moss did the victory donuts in the infield just like Gary Champion did. Rob Sweeten got some great pictures and video of the evening and they can be seen on his website linked to www.Hendryracing.com .Can’t wait until next week with twin $500 to win 30 lap races for the Thunder Stocks and the Limited Late Models.
